Roof Garden Design with an Instant Green Screen and Softwood Trough Planters

Creating an instant hedge

This instant hedge green screen was planted in a single day. Screening off air-conditioning units, this instant hedge green screen will continue to grow out and cover the galvanised stell mesh and fence posts within a year.

This example shows the versatility of both the screens and the wooden planters, which can make a sustainable living screen just about anywhere.

We specify these ready assembled trough planters, 1.45 metres long, because they are purpose built for our needs.

Trough planters are tough

Professional quality and industrial strength, the brief was to make planter troughs strong enough to withstand a sledgehammer. The tanalised European redwood is guaranteed for 3 years but we would be very surprised if they lasted less than ten, even twenty years.

Completed in a day

The trough planters have been custom sized and pre-assembled to create a run of the correct length. Each wooden planter receives a post and mesh frame with mature planting already established.

The placement on site of troughs, filling, installation of screens and irrigation system is completed in one day.

Pressure treated against rot, the wooden troughs will stay looking good for years and years.

Strong, galvanised 6mm wire mesh forms the screen framework, attached to pre-treated posts bolted into the troughs.

Before - New technology, wrong aesthetic

The installation of modern air conditioning was a great boon inside the rooms of this listed building, but the effect outside left something to be desired. To complete the job the architect specified screening.

What was needed was a cost effective roof garden solution to screen the air conditioning units.

With restricted roof access, all materials were delivered to the work area by crane.

With the pre-constructed troughs and posts assembled and lined up, the substrate and irrigation system is added.

What a difference a day makes..

Fully assembled in a day, the green screen instant hedge is planted in the wooden troughs and supplied with water through the irrigation system. The galvanised steel mesh barrier secured between the posts provides an effective barrier and support.

مدیر عامل سازمان پارک‌ها و فضای سبز شهرداری شیراز گفت: در راستای اجرای طرح پشت بام‌های سبز، ‌پشت‌بام دو پارکینگ طبقاتی شهر شیراز تبدیل به پارک تفریحی می‌شود. شهزاد رونق زاده در جمع خبرنگاران اظهار داشت: احداث پارک‌ها و باغ‌های پشت بامی از جمله راهکارهای مطرح در سطح دنیا برای توسعه فضای سبز در کلان‌شهرها است که علاوه بر ایجاد شرایط مناسب زیست محیطی، زیبایی و منظر شهری را نیز در تأثیر خود قرار می‌دهد. وی افزود: بر این اساس عملیات اجرایی احداث پارک تفریحی بر پشت بام پارکنیگ‌های طبقاتی طالقانی و هدایت از اوایل زمستان سال جاری آغاز می‌شود.
رونق زاده با بیان اینکه دغدغه رسیدن به سرانه فضای سبز در شهرهای شلوغ همواره متولیان ایجاد شرایط زیست محیطی خوب را به سمت استفاده بهینه از تمام پتانسیل‌های موجود در شهر هدایت می‌کند، گفت: هر چند مجموعه شهرداری برای ارتقای سرانه فضای سبز شهروندان شیرازی به ارتفاعات اطراف نیز روی آورده است و از آن استفاده می‌کند، اما ایجاد فضاهایی در نقاط مرکزی و پر ترافیک و محل‌های مسکونی که تأثیر بیشتری بر شرایط زیست محیطی افراد دارند در دستور کار خود قرار داده است که در این مورد استفاده از باغ‌های پشت بامی، ایجاد فضای سبز در سطح شیب دار، توسعه فضای سبز عمودی و پارک‌های پشت بامی (Roof Park)، باغ‌های پشت بامی (Roof Garden)، دیوارهای سبز ( Green Wall) به‌صورت فراگیر برنامه‌ریزی می‌شود.
وی تصریح کرد:‌ سازمان پارک‌ها و فضای سبز شهرداری شیراز اقدام به تهیه شرح خدمات اخذ مشاور در این زمینه کرد که پس از تصویب شورای اسلامی شهر شیراز با جمع‌آوری اطلاعات از اقلیم‌های مشابه در جهان، برای ایجاد فضاهای سبز پشت بامی در مجتمع‌های مسکونی، اداری، خدماتی و تجاری تلاش می کند.
مدیرعامل سازمان پارک‌ها و فضای سبز شهرداری شیراز اضافه کرد: طراحی سازه مناسب با وزن روف گاردن و مسائل ایزولاسیون ساختمان‌ها، تأمین آب و استفاده مجدد از زه آبها از جمله مسائل قابل توجه در اجرای این طرح است که باید با آینده نگری در طراحی ساختمان‌های در دست ساخت در نظر گرفته شود. وی افزود: همچنین استفاده از مصالح سبک و ترکیبات خاکی مناسب که قسمت اعظم آن را مواد آلی شامل بقایای گیاهی (تفاله چای، شیرین بیان،‌ ریشه مک و کود برگ و ...) تشکیل می‌دهند، از دیگر طرح‌های در دست مطالعه، بررسی و آزمایش است.
رونق زاده خاطرنشان کرد: در حال حاضر پشت بام ساختمان شهرداری منطقه چهار شیراز تبدیل به باغ شده است که نخستین گام در راستای تحقق این طرح‌ها در شیراز بوده است.

Amazing rooftop garden by Pulltab design located in the East Village of Manhattan, this contemporary garden offers beautiful views of the surrounding buildings white maintaining a sense of prifacy for the owner. At the center of the design is a large rough sawn white oak block selected from a lumber mill in Pennsylvania. As part of a water feature the top surface has been hand carved to accept a custom made stainless steel basin with water spout. Designed to gracefully weather over the years the oak block acts as both a countain and a bench creating a focal point for the garden. The rooftop garden is a great place for relaxing while you live in urban areas, is a solution if you would like to have a garden but you live in small home or apartment.
